Sallyeonggak - Shrine to the Mountain Spirit

This is the pavilion dedicated to the Mountain Spirit. Most Korean Buddhist temples have such a pavilion. When Buddhism first came to Korea during the three kingdoms period it absorbed this local deity into the pantheon.

This is the portrait of the Mountain Spirit. He is usually shown as an old man with a tiger. This is a detail of the mural, my picture of the whole mural did not turn out, but you can find one here.
